The blu2i RS232 Adaptor is the first in a range of end user products aimed squarely at the growing industrial and Bluetooth developer market. The adaptor takes advantage of TDK’s pre-approved Bluetooth blu2i Module and is controlled via an AT based Command set. The blu2i RS232 Adaptor is equipped with approximately half a metre of multi-core shielded cable and is terminated with a 9 way Female D type connector with screw down type fixing locks. The cores within the Multi-core cable provides all the RS232 Serial data lines to provides a direct interface to any standard RS232 port on a PC or peripheral.
The Serial Interface is RS-232 Compatible and meets EIA/TIA-232 Specifications down to 3.0V and is capable of operating at data rates of 230Kbps (device should be set to 115Kbps).
A single source 6 volt power supply is provided with the blu2i RS232 Adaptor and interfaces with the Adaptor via a 2.1mm “Barrel” style jack socket located at the end of a twin core power cable protruding from the rear of the DB9 housing. Customers can optionally power the Adaptor using any power feed between +6 volts and +24volts @ a minimum of 500mA.
The blu2i RS232 Adaptor has two user programmable green LEDs that are positioned under the translucent shield at the end of the plastic enclosure, opposite the cable entry grommet. Light pipes within the shield direct the light from the LEDs towards the front of the unit.
In factory default mode these lights are configured so that when a Bluetooth Serial Port connection is made with another Bluetooth device the LED on the right hand side of the unit when viewed from the front (cable exiting the unit from the bottom) is illuminated, while the left LED is configured to flash during data (follows the DSR line) transmission.
Software
The RS232 adapter incorporates the power of the TDK AT ‘style’ Command interface and is preconfigured to allow incoming Serial Port connections from power-up.
TDK blu2isetup: This application is provided for Windows PC users to graphically re-configure the adaptor and manage Bluetooth tasks such as Bluetooth discovery, Pairing and establish Bluetooth connections.
TDK Terminal: A copy of our Windows terminal application is also provided to allow developers to send AT Commands directly to the Adapter or run AT Command scripts to automate frequently performed tasks for example, setting up multiple Adapters with the same settings.
